This site is operated by Cherokee Gadugi of Tarrant County as a chartered satellite, non-profit, non-political organization of the Cherokee Nation. Its mission is dedicated to providing history, culture, heritage, tradition, language, and fellowship to our members who reside outside the Cherokee Nation boundaries.
Cherokee Gadugi Bylaws
Mission Statement:
The Cherokee Gadugi is a chartered satellite, non-profit, non-political organization of the Cherokee Nation, dedicated to providing history, culture, heritage, tradition, language, and fellowship to our members who reside outside the Cherokee Nation boundaries.
Article I: Membership
Members shall be persons interested in advancing the Cherokee Nation Community Values, the Mission of the Cherokee Gadugi organization, and willing to abide by its Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures.
Article II: Meetings
1. A general Membership bi-monthly meeting is to be held on the second Saturday or Sunday of the designated months.
Article ill: Communication
Cherokee Gadugi shaJI issue a monthly Newsletter, via email, fb, and or webpage.
Article IV: Council
The Cherokee Gadugi Council shall consist of seven (7) persons, elected by the
Membership.
Article V: Elections
Election of Council members and Bylaw changes are to be held at a General
Membership meeting.
Article VI: Reports
Quarterly and annual reports are to be made to the Gadugi Council, _Me bership,
and to the Cherokee Community Outreach (CCO), our parent organization, as required.
Article VII: Policies and Procedures
Further Policies and Procedures shall apply as determined by the Council.
Cherokee Gadugi Policies and Procedures
Members:

Members shall be persons interested in advancing the Mission of the Cherokee Gadugi organization.

Members shall abide by the Cherokee Gadugi Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures.

Members shall sign the attending roster when attending Membership meetings.

Members shall not use their position to further their own interests or those of another person or group, including the use of Social Media.

Members shall elect the Council Members.
-
Members shall be over the age of 18 to be eligible to vote in elections.

Members shall complete an Application for membership annually.

Members shall pay the annual dues by January 1 of each current year.
9, Members shall receive, via email, fb, and/or webpage, a monthly newsletter.
10. Membership may be terminated by the Council for,

Non-payment of annual dues by January 1 of each current year.

Violation of the Cherokee Gadugi Bylaws, Policies, and Procedures.
C. Actions detrimental to the Cherokee Gadugi, as determined by the Council.
Membership:

Must consist of a minimum of 60% Cherokee Nation enrolled citi:zens. This is determined by household. One ..registered Cherokee Nation Citizen" in a household adequately designates this household as part of the 60%.

Applications for membership that would cause the above condition to not be met, shall be placed on a Non-Citi:zen waiting list and filled as soon as possible.
Membership Meetings:

A general Membership bi-monthly meeting is to be held on the second Saturday or Sunday of the designated months.

General Membership meetings may also be called by the Council with a notification to the
members, via email and web page, (14) days in advance. (No mass phone calls are to be made).
Communication:
-
A Newsletter shall be sent, via email, tb, and or webpage, to all Current Members each month by the Assistant Secretary.

The use of Social Media shall comply with all Cherokee Community Outreach Policies and Procedures.
Cherokee Gadugi Council:
-
The Council positions are: President, Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Event Coordinator, Membership Coordinator.

The Council shall consist of seven (7) Members, annually elected by the Membership.

Four (4) of the seven (7) Council persons must be registered Cherokee Nation Citi:zens and all must have current Membership.

Only two (2) members of any family or household may serve on the Council at any given time.

The Council members may appoint a current member to fill any vacant Council seat.

The Council terms are to be two (2) years in length. Three seats are to be elected in one year and four (4) the following year.

Council positions are to be determined by the Council at the first Council meeting following the elections.

Council Members must attend five (5) of the six (6) General Membership meetings, unless excused by the Council.

Council Members must attend nine (9) of twelve (12) scheduled Council meetings, unless excused by the Council, may attend electronically.

Council business shall be acted upon, only when a quorum four (4) of seven (7) members are present.

The Council shall approve all reports prior to submission to the CCO.

Each Council person shall sign a Cherokee Gadugi Bylaws Adoption form upon being elected and or appointed to the Council. This signed form indicates that the person accepts the responsibility to adhere to the Mission Statement, the Bylaws, and all Policies and Procedures.

A recall election shall be conducted when a petition requesting that recall election is received from not less than sixty-six (66) % of the voting membership. Council members shall be recalled by a vote for removal by a majority of member votes cast.
Elections of the Council:

1. Notice of election date must be provided to all Current Member households a minimum of sixty (60) days prior to the election date.
2. Current Members, over the age of 18, may vote for the nominated Council persons at the
January General Membership meeting.
3. Bylaw changes shall also be voted on at the January General Membership meeting.

5. Current Members may nominate persons for election sixty (60) days prior to the date of the election. Nominations may be made electronically.
6. Acceptance of nominations shall close twenty-one (21) days prior to the election date.
7. Preprinted election ballets shall be given to qualified voters at the January Membership . meeting. Voters may mark seven (7) nominees. Ballets with more than seven (7) marks will
be invalid.
8. The Nominees receiving the most votes shall be declared the elected Council members.
Council Position Duties:
President:
Conduct all General Membership meetings.
Conduct all Council meetings.
Communicate with the CCO, and other formal entities.
Deleaate actions and activities to various Council Members and/or Committee Members.
Authorized to sign Cherokee Gadugi checks.
Assists in the set up and clean up at all meetings.
Vice President:
Perform the duties of the President in the absence of the President.
Establish the agenda for Council meetings.
Provide technical assistance to Cherokee Gadugi.
Assists in the set up and clean up at all meetings.
Secretary:
Records minutes at all meetings and publishes them to all the Council Members.
Authorized to sign Cherokee Gadugi checks.
Submits quarterly and annual reports as required by the Council and or the CCO.
Assists in the set up and clean up at all meetings.
Assistant Secretary:
Perform the duties of the Secretary in the absence of the Secretary.
Maintains communication with the membership via News Letter and etc.
Performs the duties as Historian for the organization.
Assists in the set up and clean up at all meetings.
Treasurer:
Provides financial reports to the Membership, Council, and or CCO as required.
Maintains an address to receive postage.
Processes all financial transactions.
Authorized to sign Cherokee Gadugi checks.
Provide all Membership Applications to the Membership Coordinator.
Assists in the set up and clean up at all meetings.
Event Coordinator:
Obtains and coordinates meeting locations.
Creates and records the plans for all meetings and events.
Coordinates and facilitates the set up and clean up at all meetings.
Assists in the set up and clean up at all meetings.
Membership Coordinator:
Maintains records of all Membership.
Maintains the "Sign in" process at all General Membership meetings.
Publishes Membership records and reports to the Council as required.
Assists in the set up and clean up at all meetings.
Funds:
All funds received shall be funneled through the Treasurer for deposit in the Cherokee Gadugi checking account in the institution selected by the Council.
The President, Secretary, and Treasurer shall be authorized to sign checks for expenditures. Debts and expenditures over $500.00 shall have the approval of all Council members prior to the activity
Dissolution of the Cherokee Gadugi:
The satellite organization may dissolve itself at any time by a two-thirds (2/3) vote by the membership, provided that at least twenty-one (21) day notice of the proposal to dissolve has been given to all members in writing.
Distribution of all remaining assets of the organization will be determined by the Cherokee Community Outreach organization.
